How self aware are you ?

How self aware are you ?

Asking that question, and getting you to reflect on it, is an example of self-awareness.

How often do you find yourself engaging in this type of reflection?

If you answered, ‘not often,’ then this article is perfect for you. If you responded, ‘all the time!’ this article also is perfect for you.

Why? Because

  1. Self-awareness is a skill that, like a muscle, needs a good work out to stay strong and flexible.
  2. Self-awareness is the capacity that a person has to introspect.
  3. It includes gaining an understanding of and insight into one’s strengths, qualities, weaknesses, defects, ideas, thoughts, beliefs, ideals, responses, reactions, attitude, emotions and motivations.
  4. Thus introspection also includes assessing how one is perceived by others and
  5. How others are impacted based on one’s behavior, responses and conduct.

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem, and that’s true in every aspect of life. Self-awareness and introspection have the ring of of a self-help guru’s empty promises, but they are the starting point that leads to every improvement.

The more you know about yourself, the better you are at adapting life changes that suit your needs. Of course, self-awareness is a big part of both therapy and philosophy. It’s also the basis of the quantifies self movement, which assumes that if you collect data about yourself you can make improvements based on that data.

The more you pay attention to your emotions and how you work, the better you’ll understand why you do the things you do. The more you know about your own habits, the easier it is to improve on those habits. In most cases, this takes a little experimentation.

You can read every article based on self awareness, you can adapt the routines of geniuses , and you can eat up every piece of self-help that comes across the computer screen, but it’s completely pointless if you don’t know yourself well enough to put the correct advice into practice.

It’s easy to fall for the idea that if you know yourself well enough you’ll be able to fix all your problems, but that’s not how it works. It’s step one. Our minds are feeble and ripe with biases that color our decisions.

Improve Your Self-Awareness with a Few Exercises :

1. Make a date with yourself.

It is a fun way to explore your creative side. Once per week, think of one thing that would be fun to learn or explore. For example, be a tourist in your own town. What can you discover that you did not already know? Decide to search for a specific shape while going for a walk. They also might help you better connect with your creative self. Who are you when you are at your most creative? Are you more playful?

2. The three why’s :

Before acting on a decision, ask yourself “Why?” Follow up your response with another “Why?” And then a third. If you can find three good reasons to pursue something, you’ll have clarity and be more confident in your actions.

3. Be accountable to your flaws :

Nobody is perfect. Being aware of your flaws, but failing to accept accountability, is leaving the job half-done. We’re often critical of others, while being ignorant of our own flaws. Self-awareness helps turn the mirror on ourselves and prevents hypocritical behavior. Iteration and self-improvement only happens once you recognize a flaw. Create a habit of acknowledging your mistakes, rather than making excuses.

4. The Johari Window :

This tool is ideal for increasing self-awareness. It focuses on understanding what’s visible (or not) to us and others. Our blind spots lie at the intersection of how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us. The Johari Window was developed by Psychologists Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham to help us become more self-aware.

5. Meditate :

If you bring meditation into your daily life, you not only will become more self-aware, it will improve your overall health and well-being. If you’ve never meditated, there are plenty of CDs, DVDs, books and classes to help you get started. Just remember, there’s no right or wrong way to meditate. Anything you do to help connect you to your inner self is a step in the right direction. Be gentle and loving to yourself and all will be revealed.

A Take-Home Message :

Self-awareness is one of the best ways to create a harmonious life. Like a muscle that atrophies without use, a lack of self-awareness can erode our relationships not only with others but also ourselves.

Luckily, we do not have to allow that to happen. Exercises like meditation, journaling, and others that involve consistent reflection, strengthen our self-awareness.

What will you do today to become more self-aware?

10 Rules of Ikigai

1. Stay active; don’t retire.
Those who give up the things they love doing and do well lose their purpose in life. That’s why it’s so important to keep doing things of value, making progress, bringing beauty or utility to others, helping out, and shaping the world around you, even after your “official” professional activity has ended.

2. Take it slow.
Being in a hurry is inversely proportional to the quality of life. As the old saying goes, “Walk slowly and you’ll go far.” When we leave urgency behind, life and time take on new meaning.

3. Don’t fill your stomach.
Less is more when it comes to eating for long life, too. According to the 80 percent rule, in order to stay healthier longer, we should eat a little less than our hunger demands instead of stuffing ourselves.

4. Surround yourself with good friends.
Friends are the best medicine, there for confiding worries over a good chat, sharing stories that brighten your day, getting advice, having fun, dreaming… in other words, living.

5. Get in shape for your next birthday.
Water moves; it is at its best when it flows fresh and doesn’t stagnate. The body you move through life needs a bit of daily maintenance to keep it running for a long time. Plus, exercise releases hormones that make us feel happy.

6. Smile.
A cheerful attitude is not only relaxing—it also helps make friends. It’s good to recognize the things that aren’t so great, but we should never forget what a privilege it is to be in the here and now in a world so full of possibilities.

7. Reconnect with nature.
Though most people live in cities these days, human beings are made to be part of the natural world. We should return to it often to recharge our batteries.

8. Give thanks.
To your ancestors, to nature, which provides you with the air you breathe and the food you eat, to your friends and family, to everything that brightens your days and makes you feel lucky to be alive. Spend a moment every day giving thanks, and you’ll watch your stockpile of happiness grow.

9. Live in the moment.
Stop regretting the past and fearing the future. Today is all you have. Make the most of it. Make it worth remembering.

10. Follow your ikigai.
There is a passion inside you, a unique talent that gives meaning to your days and drives you to share the best of yourself until the very end.

Although each of us has a different ikigai, it is always related to the search for meaning. When we find our ikigai, we are immersed in what is important to us and, therefore, feel more complete. When we lose it, we feel gloom. Ikigai sets us to the state of “flow” when we experience fun, delight, and creativity when we are fully enwrapped in life.

Ikigai is our existential fuel. We need to remember to have something that keeps us busy doing what we love while being surrounded by people who love and support us.

Don’t want to miss a Thing?

IKIGAI : How To Discover Your True Purpose.

Recently I’ve started seeing a lot more videos, movies, posts, reading articles, blogs and everything in between being dedicated to discovering our ’purpose’ in life. The Japanese concept of ‘ikigai’ is one that continually pops up, so I decided to explore it in greater detail.

You’ve probably heard about the Danish concept of ‘hygge’, if not , it is a word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment.

The Swedish concept of ‘lagom’ , word meaning “just the right amount”. The word can be variously translated as “in moderation”, “in balance”, “perfect-simple”, and “suitable”.

And if you go back to the early 90s – it was all about the Chinese concept of ‘feng shui’, an art which is based on the belief that the way you arrange things within a building, and within the rooms of that building, can affect aspects of your life such as how happy and successful you are.

Now, it looks like ikigai is the latest trend in finding happiness.

What is ikigai you ask? It roughly translates to ‘reason for being’, and the concept is concerned with finding the sweet spot between your passion, what you can get paid for, what the world needs and what you are also good at. Now I don’t actually believe anyone who says that if you’re super passionate about something that eventually it will just magically make you money. It’s a wonderful idea but if what you’re insanely passionate about is carving sculptures of famous people out of butter – your passion may never make you a millionaire. Although, with the right marketing anything is possible I guess. I’m seriously imagining butter sculptures replacing Madame Tussauds’ wax museums in the future. Moving on…

The point is, you still have to put in the hard work to make passion and profit work together.

Below, I’m going to explain something really easy that you can do today with just a few sticky notes and a pen that’ll help you get the most out of life. It will help you to map out your ikigai.

Experts estimate that each person has about 80,000 hours in their career. That’s a crapload of time to spend in the wrong career. So if we can’t just depend on our passions to find out true purpose in life then are we all just wasting time.

Not at all.

How to discover your purpose using the concept of ikigai

Step 1:
Grab sticky notes in 4 colors.

Step 2:
On one color write down the things you’re really passionate about or things that you love, this can be everything from computers to playing with your dog – the more the better. Each new thing must go on a separate sticky note.

Now stick them up on the wall at the top. The placement is important.

Step 3:
On the second color, write the things you’re good at. Some of these things might overlap with the previous sticky notes and that’s great just write them again on the second color stickies. Now stick them up on the wall just below and to the left of the previous notes. Again, each new thing must go on a separate sticky note.

Step 4:
On the third color, write down things you can earn money from. This is specific to you and your skills. So in the previous category, you might have said that you can fit 40 almonds in your mouth but unless someone will pay you good money for this skill, it doesn’t belong in this category. Stick these up on the wall at the bottom.

Step 5:
The fourth color is reserved for the things which the world needs. So write down any ways in which you could benefit the world, and stick them up on the wall on the right.

To recap, here’s an example of what you should already have:

Note: the colors that you’ve used are probably different to mine, but it will help to explain my personal ikigai map further below.

Hopefully, now you will have some areas where all 4 colours overlap and this will help you to determine your direction in life. It helps if you remove some of the sticky notes that aren’t repeated anywhere else, so the only ones remaining will be the things that appear in more than one category.

This is what my ikigai map looks like. You can see there are some which overlap which I’ve placed in the middle.

From this, you can see how my ikigai or reason for being (otherwise known as the ‘sweet spot’) is a combination of travel, design, teaching and paying it forward.

Going deeper into the meaning of ikigai :

There is a good reason why we have placed the sticky notes in particular spots on the wall. If you look at the below diagram, you’ll see the words passion, mission, vocation and profession at the overlapping points.

What does this mean?

Passion: The things that you love and that you’re also good at.

Mission: The things that the world needs and that you also love.

Vocation: The things that you can be paid for and also that the world needs.

Profession: The things that you’re good at and also what you can be paid for.

If you focus on the overlapping points, you will find yourself a lot closer to what your ikigai, your true purpose, actually is.

So then, here are the four questions that my career counsellor should have actually asked me when I told her what I wanted to do with my life

Are you passionate about it?

Are you good at it?

Can you actually earn good money from it?

Does the world need it?

Essentially these are what we have just mapped out with the sticky notes. If you haven’t found your ikigai yet, don’t worry. Not everyone has overlapping interests. It might help to complete the exercise again now that you have a greater understanding of the meaning behind it.

Here are 5 additional tips for you if you need some more direction when it comes to your ikigai and finding your purpose :

  1. Routine – if you change nothing, nothing will change.
  2. Do things that scare you, at least once a week.
  3. Meet as many new people as you can to find out what it is you love and what you’re good at.
  4. Get good at something that makes the world a better place. Find what gives you a sense of achievement AND meaning.
  5. Be flexible. 10 years ago you were probably a completely different person. 10 years from now you will, once again, be a completely different person so don’t limit yourself to one passion.

I hope that that helps you to find just the right balance of passion, purpose and profit in your life!

I am a Soupaholic!

Every soup-lover knows: There’s nothing better on a cool  day than cozying up to a warm bowl of steamy soup while lounging at home in long layers.

Whether you pull out your dutch oven , slow-cooker or instant pot, there is something deeply satisfying about cooking up a batch of soup. It just feels good, doesn’ it? Right up there along with baking a loaf of crusty bread.

Sooooooo So good for the soul.

And so good for our bodies!

Full of nutrients, gently warming,  these vegetarian and vegan soups are so restorative to the body.

Here are a few Soup recipes.

Simple Tomato Soup :

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons ghee, butter or olive oil.(the ghee is good!)
  • 1 extra-large onion, diced
  • 1 cup carrots, thinly sliced (or sub celery or red bell pepper)
  • 2 lbs fresh tomatoes ( or canned )
  • 1 cup water plus 2 bouillon cubes (chicken or veggie)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or sugar (or sugar alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 10–15 basil leaves
  • pinch cayenne (optional, but good)
  • 1/2 cup cream or half and half
  • 1–2 tablespoon sour cream- optional!

instructions

  1. Heat butter in a heavy bottom pan over medium-high heat. Add the onions, and sauté until softened about 3-4 minutes. Add the carrots, lower heat to medium, sauté 3-4 minutes more until onions are golden and fragrant.
  2. Add the tomatoes, water, bouillon cubes, honey or sugar, salt and pepper. (If making this vegan, add cashews now-see notes.) Stir, increase heat and bring to a simmer, cover, then lower heat to low, so it’s gently simmering.  Simmer 10-15 minutes until the tomatoes have broken down and carrots are tender. Remove from heat.
  3. Using an immersion blender, blend the soup adding the basil leaves.  Or you can blend in a blender.
  4. Return it to the pot. Stir in the cream.
  5. Taste and adjust salt and sugar. Add a little pinch of cayenne.
  6. Whisk in the sour cream if you like.

Cream Of Mushroom :

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, vegan butter (I love Miyoko’s), or ¼ cup water
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 lbs. mushrooms (cremini or white), sliced
  • ½ cup vegan dry white wine (red ok too), optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or 1 ½ teaspoons dried
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot (+ ¼ cup water), optional
  • 1 can (14oz.) coconut milk (light or full-fat) or 1 ½ cups cream or unsweetened cashew milk
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup chopped parsley

INSTRUCTIONS

Saute: In a large pot, heat oil or water over medium heat, saute the onions and garlic for 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms, thyme and wine, cook for 5 minutes.

Simmer: Add the broth, bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. In the last five minutes, add the coconut or plant milk, continue cooking for five minutes.

Slurry: Mix the cornstarch with cool water. Add to the soup and stir frequently for 1 – 2 minutes until soup slightly thickens. If the soup is too thin, add more cornstarch slurry as needed until desired consistency is reached.

Remove from heat and stir in the parsley. Season with salt and pepper.

Potato Leek Soup :

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or ¼ cup water (for water saute)
  • 3 medium leeks (use white and light green parts only)
  • 2 ½ lbs. potatoes, cubed ½ inch (peeled or with skin on)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried thyme or mixed Herbs
  • 4 cups water or low-sodium vegetable broth
  • mineral salt, to taste
  • ¼ cup chopped parsley, to garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Prep: Leeks, start by removing and discarding the root ends and thick dark green parts. Cut the leeks in half lengthwise and rinse each half under cold water, pulling apart the layers to remove any sand or debris nestled inside, slice the leeks crosswise. Alternatively, slice the leeks, then put in a colander and wash well under running water. Should yield 4 – 5 cups. Cut potatoes into ½ inch cubes. Feel free to peel the potatoes or leave the skin on (I left the skin on).

Saute: In a large dutch oven or pot, heat the oil/water over medium heat. Add the leeks and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and wilted, about 10 minutes. Adjust the heat as necessary so as not to brown the leeks.

Simmer: Add the potatoes, broth, bay leaves, herbs, salt to pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer on low for 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork tender.

Puree: Remove the bay leaves, and puree the soup using a hand-held immersion blender until smooth. Alternatively, use a regular blender to puree the soup in batches. Taste for seasoning.

Serve: Serve warm with chopped parsley, crispy chickpea or crutons.

Musings from the Analytical Mind ❤️

The most important organ of the human body is The Brain. It connects all the systems, makes the most important decisions, thinks laterally and vertically, pulls up memories to analyse, builds our castles in the Air and works on how to make things possible.

The theory is that people are either left-brained or right-brained, meaning that one side of their brain is dominant. If you’re mostly analytical and methodical in your thinking, you’re said to be left-brained. If you tend to be more creative or artistic, you’re thought to be right-brained.

This theory is based on the fact that the brain’s two hemispheres function differently. This first came to light in the 1960s, thanks to the research of psychobiologist and Nobel Prize winner Roger W. Sperry.

The left brain is more verbal, analytical, and orderly than the right brain. It’s sometimes called the digital brain. It’s better at things like reading, writing, and computations.

According to Sperry’s dated research, the left brain is also connected to:

  • Logic
  • Sequencing
  • Linear Thinking
  • Mathematics
  • Facts
  • Thinking in words

The right brain is more visual and intuitive. It’s sometimes referred to as the analog brain. It has a more creative and less organized way of thinking.

Sperry’s dated research suggests the right brain is also connected to:

  • Imagination
  • Holistic thinking
  • Intuition
  • Arts
  • Rhythm
  • Nonverbal cues
  • Feelings visualization
  • Daydreaming

We know the two sides of our brain are different, but does it necessarily follow that we have a dominant brain just as we have a dominant hand?

Can we be both Right Brained and Left Brained?

No,We are all “brain-ambidextrous.” If ever there were a left-brained and a right-brained person, it would be the two personalities cohabiting the skull of a split brain patient. For the rest of us, these labels are as fictional as Harry Potter.

Does it matter if we are Right Brained or left Brained ? Does it reflect soo much on our decisions in life ? In our occupation ? In our hobbies ? —— Think about it!

Are you Left Brained or Right Brained ?

The value of Thank You In your life.

Let’s do a challenge. For 5 minutes look around yourself, observe and now tell me 3 things that make you grateful. How many of you can count more than 3 blessings? Very few, right? Do you ever feel the importance of gratitude in life?

The world is full of opportunities and we are choice makers. We have to choose the right angel to see every negative event and have to learn not to think of it as a result or as a failure, take it as a learning experience and by developing these habits to be happy forever.

Today, your co-worker comes to you and greet. You found it suspicious and thinking of why he greets me. Rather than being grateful for it, you might start thinking negatively. That’s where the power of gratitude works. You are taking every negative emotion in a positive way. So let’s deep dive into how gratitude works and how it is beneficial for your overall well being.

In psychology, gratitude is not given much importance before but after deep study, gratitude comes out as one of the greatest factors that instill positivity and overall well being in anyone’s life.

11 Powerful Benefits of practicing gratitude in everyday life

  1. Gratitude makes you a happier person.
  2. Gratitude builds a positive personality.
  3. You have good sleep and feel more relaxed.
  4. It helps you to increase productivity.
  5. It helps you to live a long and healthy life.
  6. It improves your mental health.
  7. It helps to heal over trauma and bad incidents in life.
  8. Gratitude increases bonding in a relationship.
  9. Gratitude benefits to building more trust and enthusiasm.
  10. Gratitude leads to a less self-centered and materialistic life.
  11. Gratitude benefits overall well being.

A grateful person experiences a higher level of positive thoughts like love, happiness, and less stress level.

When we practice gratitude in life, we are creating a happy and less competitive life around ourselves, therefore, the overall well being of human beings increases.

After considering all the benefits of gratitude, you will see that gratitude really works and its importance in society is remarkable. You can practice gratitude by writing a journal or make a gratitude list as a reminder to say Thanks!

Have you ever found that gratitude has helped in your life?

Why does practicing grattitude bother you ? Analyse this! Work on it! Find ways to succeed!

In the end, I am repeating myself and asking you the same question, name 3 things you are grateful for?

Don’t want to miss a thing ?

MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE-CREAM 🍦

Friends, gather round. We need to discuss a food faux pas that has gone unmentioned for far too long.
You saw the title, so you know what I’m talking about. It’s the fact that mint chocolate chip ice cream is gross, and I’ll fight you if you disagree.
Let’s start with the most important thing of all: THE FLAVOR.

If I wanted to eat something that tasted like frozen toothpaste, I’d stick a tube in the freezer and go to town. But ICE CREAM that tastes like toothpaste? NO THANK YOU.
Let’s get one thing straight: mint is not a gross flavor! It’s useful for gum and toothpaste and mouthwash and anything else that is used to freshen your breath. But as a dessert? GIRL, YOU CRAZY.

ADDITIONALLY, why ruin not one but TWO perfectly good sweets (ice cream and chocolate) by including mint? It’s absolutely LUDICROUS.

It’s like simultaneously trying to brush your teeth AND enjoy dessert at the same time, and it is NOT fair.

But friends, I’m not here to report just one crime against our taste buds. Call in the FBI, call in a SWAT team, because we have a lot of misdeeds.

Mint chocolate chip ice cream doesn’t just TASTE gross, it very often LOOKS gross.
Like this bright green color is probably a nice option if you’re buying highlighters since it’s back to school time, but as a food? SO MUCH NOPE.

And because some delusional people think mint chocolate chip ice cream is an acceptable “flavor,” they’ll have it in their fridge and offer it at parties, as if you (a reasonable person) might want some. If it’s the only option, you’re skunked! It honestly would be better to offer NO ICE CREAM.
For real, just buy chocolate or vanilla ice cream like a normal person. It’s not that difficult!

Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that mint chocolate chip has given way to other minty misfires, like candy cane/peppermint ice cream. NONE OF THESE ARE ACCEPTABLE.
Like, peppermint ice cream isn’t as BAD as mint chocolate chip ice cream, but it is still part of the problem! ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE UNAPPETIZING!

And don’t even get me started on OTHER mint chocolate chip-flavored desserts.

All I have to ask is, “WHY?!”

In summary, we the people deserve to live in a world that is devoid of mint chocolate chip ice cream, because that world is simply TASTIER. Thank you for your time.

Just My views, NO OFFENSE.

Write down your views on MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE-CREAM below in the comments.

STOP!
TAKE DEEP A BREATH,
SMILE,
THINK OF THE GOOD TIMES,
THEN PROCEED!

I was scrolling on Instagram the other day and so many positive quotes were popping up, which without a doubt tells you the type of content that I search for. But seriously, the positive quotes were doing nothing but good things to my scroll. They were making me smile, reminding me of the good, and some of them even got a like and save that night.

It made me think of how often (or not often) I am giving myself the chance to interact with positivity.
What people do you surround yourself with?
What accounts do you follow? Do you have notes of kindness on your mirror or phone wallpaper that makes you smile?
My phone reminds me to breathe and drink water several times a day.
What if it told me to smile instead?
That would be pretty awesome (I bet there’s an app for that already, lemmme know if you know).

I want to find all of the ways to work brightness into my day. I’m thinking you probably do too. So let’s start today right and read through the positive quotes below in my feed. If you find one you like , save it— heck maybe you even have a positive quotes Page like me! Or better yet, make it your phone wallpaper.

I hope they bring you a bit of sunshine.

Your Mind ❤️

The mind is the most powerful tool that humans possess, it can be used to help you attain success or it can take you to the depths of failure. You must learn to use your mind to its optimal level if you want to live life on a new level. The mind is the key to success.

Become the master of your mind or it shall rule you. What you think about is what you will bring about into your life, you must see yourself as who you want to become. So think thoughts of success and go confidently in the direction of your dreams and know that you have what it takes. So believe in yourself, you are capable of more than you know.

You may not realise it, but the mind is very powerful. It is unlimited in potential. You can create anything you desire just by letting the mind do what it was created by God to do. Once you begin to understand the power of the mind, and learn the laws of the universe, you can reprogram your subconscious so you can obtain anything you want in life and live life to the fullest.

Life does have a purpose for you and will give you abundance if you program your mind in that direction. Once you learn and apply the principles and techniques required to alter your programming, enhance your mind’s functions, and improve the way your mind can develop, you can have anything you wish or desire. It just takes a single step and understanding of the mechanism to appreciate what it does.

It has the ability to heal all diseases. But yet, in the average person, only 10% of the mind is used, which results in 90% not being useless. Imagine what we could do if we used the full capacity our mind can muster.

Don’t want to miss a Thing?

Spicy Cookies.

Be it sweet or spicy, round or out of shape we all just love munching on them.

The traditional Cookie and Cream ice-cream needs no words and who doesn’t love a cookie along with their tea or coffee.

The recipe can be tweaked to your discretion making it spicy or not, adding a bit of sugar or not let it play to your taste and have fun.

We enjoy spice in our food; so I have added more jalapenos and herbs (curry leaves and cilantro) along with ginger and asafetida. You can choose to add any spice combination you love, be it cumin seeds, coriander powder, mint leaves etc.

Here is my version of the salty and healthy Wheat Cookies which had us grabbing them off the tray even before they cooled.

Ingredients :

  • ½ cup maida/all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup plus 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon hing/asafetida
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3 to 4 green chilis/jalapenos
  • 3 tablespoons coriander leaves
  • 2 tablespoons curry leaves
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons yogurt
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions :

  1. In a small blender jar, make a paste of green chilies, coriander leaves, curry leaves and ginger. You can choose to make a fine paste or leave it coarse; I love to see the bits of green herbs in my cookies, so I made a coarse paste.
  2. In a large bowl, sift all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, corn flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, turmeric powder and hing or mix with a wire whisk.
  3. Add softened butter along with the blended paste and mix with your hands to a coarse breadcrumb like mixture.
  4. Add yogurt a teaspoon at a time till you get a smooth dough; do not make it too soft like chapatti dough. I added about 1 ½ teaspoons of yogurt.
  5. Cover and keep aside for about 30 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Centigrade.
  7. Grease a baking pan lightly and keep aside.
  8. Make 2 portions of the dough.
  9. Roll one portion to a thin disc about ¼ inches in thickness.
  10. Using a cookie cutter, cut the dough into desired shapes, prick them with a fork (this prevents the cookie from puffing up while baking).and place them on the greased baking pan
  11. Bake at 200 degrees Centigrade for 15 to 20 minutes until the edges of the cookies start to brown.
  12. Remove from oven and gently place on cooling racks to cool completely.
  13. Continue with the rest of the dough.
  14. Cool completely and store leftovers in an airtight container.
  15. Enjoy crisp, buttery, healthy and spicy savory cookies with your evening chai/coffee, at your next party or as a mid morning snack.
